OPERAs (Operational Potential of Ecosystems Research Applications) is a research initiative focused on improving knowledge about how ES and NC support human well-being across various social-ecological systems, including inland/coastal zones, rural/urban areas, forests, and freshwater. Its goals are to explore how these concepts can be practically implemented for sustainable ecosystem management beyond academic theory.
Key activities include:
-
Conducting a systematic review (meta-analysis) of existing ES/NC practices to identify gaps and policy needs.
-
Developing and testing new tools and policy instruments in diverse case studies covering different ecosystems, regions, sectors, and timeframes.
-
Creating a web-based Resource Hub co-developed by scientists and stakeholders to share resources, tools, and knowledge.
-
Establishing a Community of Excellence (CoE) for ongoing collaboration and application of OPERAs outcomes.
This approach aims to bridge science and practice for improved ecosystem management supporting sustainability and human welfare.
